2nd Workcamp
1. Dates: 12/07 – 02/08
2. Location: Kpélé-Konda
Kpélé-Konda is a village of 3000 inhabitants, 1 km from Adéta. It is equipped with a youth centre, an organisation for eye disabled people, a community centre for social and educational activities, a primary school, and a kindergarten. There is also a waterfall. Volunteers will be accommodated in the training centre (for wood work, masonry, sewing, etc.) which is equipped with playgrounds, football and volleyball fields, and spaces for parties.
3. Theme: Improvement of the youth training centre and support to the activities of the eye disabled people’s organisation.
Kpélé-Konda centre is a training facility for young people who had to stop their studies. The aim of the project is to improve the centre as it is facing difficulties at the moment – renovation of the buildings and construction of new means of functioning. Volunteers will also support the group of blind people during their income-raising activities.
Work to be done:
- Renovation of a building,
- Tree planting,
- Road marking,
- And support to the activities of the blind people (through making and selling traditional chalks).
4. Other activities:
· Tourist sites to be visited: Dzanipé and its many beautiful falls, Danyi and its beautiful plains and landscape (visit to Dzogbegan monastery and its round wooden chapel), Mount of Kloto (the view over Volta Lake in Ghana), Kuma Konda village and Viale castle, Mount Agou (the highest mountain in Togo).sites to be visited
· There are also possibilities to discover northern Togo (with big towns such as
Atakpamé, Sodoké and Kara, Alédjo, Tamberma countries, Niamtougou etc.), Nangbéto Dam and the hippos’ lake.
· Artistic activities: get to know batik and sculpture techniques.
· Cultural activities: drumming (djembé) and dances around the fire.
· A day with a family: spending a day within an African family, with thematic approaches such as animism, the chief’s enthroning ceremony, a traditional wedding, a day in the fields, etc.
· It is worth mentioning that the activities are only proposed to the volunteers. They are related to internal management and have to be checked with the camp leaders, especially excursions and their related costs.
