Project: The small town of Eggenfelden in Bavaria would like to welcome international volunteers for the first time! The first aim of the project is the renaturation of a watercourse called “Mertseebach”. For this task and the hosting of the workcamp, the town of Eggenfelden will cooperate with a local fishery club and a local club for landscape preservation. Besides this project there will be plenty of other tasks related to green areas in the town to which the workcamp group can make a contribution.
Work: The volunteers will help to renaturate the “Mertseebach” watercourse. The work will be supervised by professionals. This work includes fixing the banks with dead wood, placing stones, placing of gravel, mowing nearby areas, fighting weed, bringing out seeds... Other possible work tasks in parks, green areas and on playgrounds of the town of Eggenfelden will for example include: removing leaves, painting benches, painting playground equipment, helping with cutting trees and hedges, mowing, cleaning hiking paths.
Accommodation: will be in a building of the municipality with all necessary sanitary facilities.
Location: Eggenfelden is a town with about 13 000 inhabitants, located in “Lower Bavaria”, the very southeast of Germany’s federal state of Bavaria, close to the border between Germany and Austria. The landscape, part of the foothills of the Alps, is one of hills and green valleys, being a nice area for biking and hiking. Mid-sized towns in “Lower Bavaria” worth seeing are Landshut (in about 60 km distance from Eggenfelden), Passau (in about 68 km distance) and Regensburg (in about 110 km distance), which has an old town that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most ancient towns in Germany. Also a famous large lake called “Chiemsee” (and sometimes referred to as the “Bavarian Sea”) is only about 80 km away and is located right in front of the beautiful mountain scenery of the Alps.
