PROJECT DETAILS: The project is developed working together with VIMEX and the Town Hall of Merida through its Youth Municipal Institute and the Department of Commisionners of the Social Development Direction.
The Youth Municipal Institute is a decentralized organism from Merida Town Hall which work is to ensure for the needs and interests from all the people around 14-29 years old, with no gender distinction, religion, origin or social situation who live in Merida and the Commisionners.
They work under a participatory and inclusive leadership philosophy where the youth will find a forum to encourage the creativity, innovation and expression freedom on each field and interest area.

Internationals: 30 (15 men-15 women)
Nationals: 60 (30 men-30 women)
WORK:.
- As principal axis, the volunteers will develop activities as: cleaning common areas, reforestation, public spaces rehabilitation and the integral improvement of the image of the commissioners of San Jose Tzal and Caucel.
- As complementary activities, manual activities will be done, as well as languages simple, ecological visits, sports, cultural and artistic activities organized by the volunteers, according to a pre established program by the volunteers.
- Development on specific projects (academics and culturals) raised by the students of the municipality to develop with the international volunteers in benefit with the objective communities. The categories are entrepreneurship, alternative culture, technology and citizen participation.
- At the end a cultural sample will be organized.
LOCATION: In Merida, Yucatán, situated 19 hours far away from Mexico City (from TAPO Trucking Central) or by plane one hour 40 minutes far away. You can also arrive to Merida by the International Airport form Cancun City, once you are in the airport you have to move to the town of the city and take a bus ADO towards Merida City, the travel lasts 4 hours.
ACCOMODATION: The lodging will be at the principal house of the community known as “Edificio de la Comisaría”. The volunteers will clean the home, provided with basic services as water and light.
FOOD: Generally, the meals will be cooked by the volunteers or they could be prepared sometimes by the people of the community.
LANGUAGE: Basic Spanish will be welcome in order to be in touch with native people.
REQUIREMENTS: Good disposal to work in team, dedication, responsibility, availability to work with Young people. Bring your own life insurance. Comfortable clothes for tropical weather and your Sleeping bag.
HOW TO ARRIVE: From VIMEX office the volunteers will go to the camp.
FREE TIME: Merida is considered the safest city in the country, it is located in the state of Yucatan, one of the most beautiful states in the southeast of the country.
Warm / tropical climate predominates in the 80 % points of cultural, ecological and historical attractions among with various archaeological sites of the Mayan culture, such as Chichen Itza , which represents one of the 7 Wonders of the World (1 hour from the city ) as well as countless and beautiful " Cenotes " , which are natural caverns with underground water, in the route known as " Cuzama " ( 45 minutes from the city). Our city is an strategic destination for visitors who like the beach, Merida has locations very close to us as "Puerto Progreso." (20 minutes), or the International Biosphere Reserve "Celestun" where you can find flamingos. If you prefer an area with nightclubs beach , visit " Can Cun " which is just 3 hours from our city. (By car)
Similarly Merida also have colonial cities known as "Magical Towns such as Izamal, where the convent with the largest atrium in Latin America is situated (40 minutes from Merida), Valladolid, and various places to eat the traditional food known worldwide as the town of Mani ( 1 hour from Merida).
REQUIREMENTS: Readiness for teamwork, dedication, responsibility and willingness to work with youth.

The meeting point will be at the VIMEX office before the camp starts because all the volunteers will go together to the project.
