Project: During the 19th century the town of La Fert-sous-Jouarre was renowned the world over for the quality of the millstones it produced. The 'Blue-Hands Festival' pays tribute to the miners who extracted these stones, known locally as the blue hands because of the colour given to their hands by fragments of rock which would become stuck under their skin during the course of their work. This event takes place in the town centre on 20 September and constitutes a street-art festival bringing together professional artists, amateurs, and local associations. Work: The association Vir'Volt, located in La Fert-sous-Jouarre, takes part in this festival by preparing a street-art performance, bringing together a cast of international volunteers and local young people. In order to produce a successful performance, volunteers will alternate between workshops of plastic creation and workshops of theatrical expression. During the festival, the results of these workshops will be unveiled on the "Charles de Gaulle" bridge in the town centre through street decorations and a theatrical performance given by the volunteers. Leisure Activities: Volunteers will have the chance to enjoy the association's campsite and to discover the cultural and natural heritage of a region which is home to such famous products as Champagne and Brie. You will also be given the opportunity to meet and socialise with local young people. Other leisure activities will be organised collectively depending on the wishes of the group and the available budget. Accommodation: In communal tents (yurts, tipis) on the association's campsite. Participants are required to bring along a sleeping bag. Location: La Fert-sous-Jouarre, 60km East of Paris in the region of Seine-et-Marne. Closest Train Station: La Fert-sous-Jouarre
