1. SummaryProjects to foster the international perspective of the children in the region facing the
depopulation and aging.
2. Background: Organized together with a local group formed for this project since 1998. Mount Aso ancient
caldera ranks among the world's largest, with a diameter of up to 25 kilometers and a
circumference of over 100 kilometers. In spite of the wonderful landscape, depopulation is a
serious problem here similarly with many other parts of the country side in Japan. We aim to
support the activities and bring the global power for the community.
3. Work: We will be divided into 4-5 groups, help local farmers such as cutting brush and harvesting
vegetables. We will prepare, run and clean up after the local summer festival. We will also join
a kid’s camp, which will be held in this village for few days.
4. Accommodation: Local volunteer house. Simple self-catering. Meals will be cooked by volunteers by turns.
Sleeing bag is necessary. Share room.
5. Study theme: Aso volcano museum, Japan and world volcanoes, Aso grasslands, precious animals and clture in
Aso are exhibited.
6. Other activities: Hiking on the mountain and nature hot spring
7. Location: Mt. Aso-san is located at the center of Aso-Kuju National Park in Kumamoto and Oita, which lies
roughly in the center of Kyushu.
8. Terminal: Fukuoka airport (3 hours by express train. You need to arrive by 09:00 on first day and can leave
there after 17:00 on last day).
9. Requirement: Interest in agriculture and the project of the workcamp.
