Descripción:
Rishikesh is a city in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Located in the foothills of the Himalaya s in northern India, it is known as The Gateway to the Himalayas . It is located around 45 kilometres north of another holy city, Haridwar. The city attracts hundreds of thousands of pilgrims and tourists each year, from within India, as well as from other countries. It is a vegetarian city by law, an alcohol-free city, and has also banned the use of plastic bags. Rishikesh, sometimes nicknamed the world capital of Yoga , has numerous Yoga centres that also attract tourists. Rishikesh is world famous for Rafting and Adventure. The volunteers will learn the Basics of Yoga and Meditation during the work camp. Every day there will be topics covered by a professional master (the person in charge of yoga and meditation classes), which will be practiced by the volunteers. Apart from this, volunteers will also help in creating awareness among the locals and school children on issues like Health and Hygiene, environmental protection, eco-clubs, eco-tourism, solid waste management etc. Volunteers need to be creative in their approach to give out the message through dramas, street plays and puppet shows. The work camp also involves teaching children from poor and marginalized community about basic English and Mathematics, Health and Hygiene, and Environmental protection through creative learning methods like art, music, games etc. There will also be house visits and meetings with local rural people as part of inter-cultural learning and to give awareness on health, education and hygiene. As part of the cultural exchange, volunteers will witness and participate in the cultural programs with local community. Volunteers can also take part in trekking activities over the weekend.

Food: Indian food will be provided for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Filtered water is always available for drinking purposes. FSL-India has been running workcamps all over India since 2001. Over the years, FSL-India has developed a strong network of local partners and local volunteers in the regions where we conduct our camps. In every workcamp, FSL-India works in partnershipwith local NGOs i since they are able to identify the problems and needs of the locality. This helps us achieve sustainability and a larger impact in the work that we do. Partnering with a local NGO also helps in reaching out to the local community. In addition, FSL-India works in various fields in cooperation with Archaeological Survey of India, Ministry of Women and Child Welfare, Ministry of Health, Education, Forest and Wildlife Departments and Local Self-governance Bodies.
Location:Rishikesh is about 15 kilometres from Dehradun s Jolly Grant Airport - a small, quiet and recently renovated airport handling just two flights from Delhi. A railway line connects Rishikesh to Haridwar, but there are only about three slow trains daily. From Delhi the city is about 230 kilometres away and is well connected by buses. A bus journey may take about 5 to 7 hours. The exact Meeting Point will be mentioned in the info sheets.Leisure: Weekends are free The volunteers will not work on Saturdays and Sundays. They can plan their free time accordingly. The camp leaders are there to provide you with the necessary information about interesting excursions and trips around the camp site. To promote intercultural learning, the team leaders will arrange visits to places of interest, weddings, festivals, local house visits, interaction with local youth etc. The local community would be more than happy to welcome you. Please use this opportunity to exchange experiences, to learn more about other social, cultural and political living conditions and to show them, in return, yours. In order to promote that, we will have a special cultural evening, when the volunteers will be able to present their countries and interact with the locals.
