There are different jobs during the camp: tidying up of the park and the area around Puhja School, picking cucumbers and other vegetables in the garden, doing some odd jobs. Volunteers will work together with local youth (age 13-20 years). Work will be mostly outdoors. The work will last only 4 hours a day from 9am until lunch. Weekends are free. Afternoons and evenings are filled with trips to different cities in Estonia to get to know Estonia and its culture better. Also different leisure activities, teamwork exercises, adventure park visits, swimming, etc. are organised after the working hours and in the evenings. International volunteers are asked to introduce their home culture and habits, so that all camp participants can get to know more about all of the countries where the participants are from.
Accommodation is organised in Puhja school building, girls and boys in different rooms. Volunteers will sleep on the mattresses. Participants have to bring their sleeping bag and towel. Toilets and showers are available. Meals will be prepared by kitchen staff and served in the school cantina 3 times per day.
Puhja village lies about 25 km from Tartu, which is the second biggest city in Estonia. Distance from the capital Tallinn is about 200 km. The area of Puhja is known for its outstanding beauty - many lakes, rivers, lots of bog and forest. The Alam-Pedja National Park with its amazing wild life is close by in Puhja. More information on www.Tartu.ee, www.visitestonia.com,LEISUREThere are different opportunities to do sports in sport hall of the school, for instance ball games. Also new gym is opened in 2014. The youth centre placed next to the school house has a lot to offer - participants can play pool, pinks, x-box games, board games, check their mails, etc. There will be also many outdoor activities planned: swimming, barbeque, hiking, canoeing, climbing, adventure park visit, etc. Participants suggestions for leisure time are very welcome as some of the evenings are planned according their interests. Also there will be trips to summer capital Parnu, famous spa-town with nice sea side, to the University town of Tartu, historical Viljandi and other places.
No special skills are needed. Tools for the work will be provided. Please bring sleeping bag, working clothes and gloves. English and Estonian are the camp languages. All the participants have to bring something very common to their country to introduce it to the other participants (for example some food/ snacks, national clothes, photos, souvenirs, etc). It is a must that volunteers follow the rules and schedule of the camp (e.g. be back at accommodation by 21:00, from 23:00 is a repose time, etc). The age of participants is 14-17.PARTICIPATION FEEDue to difficult economic situation and lack of financial support for the project from local community the participation fee of 180 Euro is requested from volunteers to cover the costs of board, diverse leisure time activities as well as administrative and pedagogical costs. This fee is different from sending organisation s fee paid at home, and it has to be paid by volunteers upon arrival to the camp or by bank transfer before the beginning of the camp.
