Volunteers will work alongside with the youth workers as camp counselors. The volunteers are expected partly to come up with their own initiative regarding activities (i.e. games, sports, artscrafts) and to help arranging the schedules activities such as swimming, hiking, sauna, campfire and more. The aim is to give international and multicultural experiences to the local children and youth and to break barriers between different cultures.
The volunteers will stay in the Youth Centre, 4-5 person per room. The centre has all basic facilities available, including an area for washing clothing. Bed frames and foam mats are provided but volunteers must bring their own sleeping bags. Full board dining at the camp with the children. During weekends volunteers cook for themselves. Volunteers with special diet must let the camp organizers know about this before arrival.
The muinicipality of Janakkala and the camp centre Mallikkainen is situated in Southern Finland. The municipality has a population of circa 17,000 and covers an area of 586.07 square kilometres of which 38.63 km2 is water.
Volunteers will need to bring with them a copy of CGC (criminal record) and have it enclosed with their camp application when applying. Use of alcohol or any other intoxicants is strictly prohibited Smoking and drinking is prohibited during the entire camp. The volunteers need to take a travel insurance for the duration of their stay.
