With the support of Concordia’s technical leader and the technical services of the municipality, you will renovate a dry stone retaining wall, about ten meters long, along the trail. It is essentially built in slate of lauzes (kind of stone), however we can find some granite stones in the wall as well. The renovation will be carried out using local materials while respecting the masonry techniques specific to dry stone.
You will stay in the Town Hall in the heart of the village overlooking the Chambon dam and its turquoise blue waters! The group will be guided by 2 camp leaders, one group leader and one technical leader. Together you will participate in the organization of your collective life (cleaning, activities …), you will prepare meals in turns using the products bought nearby. We will favour local products and short supply chains. Tastings of local specialties may also be organised with local producers.
You will not miss any discovery activities during this project! The town of Mizoën with its 200 inhabitants is located in the department of Isère, in the heart of the Oisans Valley, on the outskirts of the Ecrins National Park. The proximity to mountains and beautiful nature of Mizoën is conducive to the practice of outdoor sports, including hiking (on the hiking trail 54 for example). The barrier lake of Chambon holds a nautical base. The nearby ski resorts such as Alpe d'Huez and Deux-Alpes, allow practicing many summer sports such as mountain biking, climbing ... Several mountain refuges are within the town’s limits and you will be welcomed there during your stay. You will also be able to participate in numerous artists' performances as part of the Festival des Randonnées Musicales du Ferrand which is currently being programmed.
The town is located about fifteen kilometers from Bourg d'Oisans which offers all types of shops and local services (doctors, banks, post office ...).
Remember to bring gloves as well as working clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. In the mountains, nights may be chilly. Remember to bring a warm sleeping bag and warm clothes. Take also appropriate clothing in case of rain or for hiking in altitudes (pullovers, polar, raincoats ...). Hiking shoes will be essential. Do not forget sun protection as well (hat, sunglasses and sunscreen) and a swimming suit. The common life activities will be programmed together with your camp leaders and according to your suggestions! If you would like to share your culture (cooking recipes, traditional stories), do not hesitate to bring a piece of your country in your backpack!
Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues happen on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country.
