With the help of a technical coordinator from Concordia, who will share with you his passion and knowledge, you will build a dry-stone wall (without mortar) that is typical for this region. This work doesn’t require any specific skills. However you may need to carry heavy stones.
You will be accommodated in tents near the houses of the eco-village. Don’t forget to bring a sleeping bag and a floor mat. There will be an equipped kitchen in the town hall. You will prepare meals in turns using the products bought nearby. We will favour local products and short supply chains. Tastings of local specialties may also be organised with local producers. Toilets and showers will be in the building nearby. In case of bad weather, the village will provide a room to shelter you.
Saint-Jean-Chambre is a little village (275 inhabitants) located in the department of Ardèche in the Rhône-Alpes region. It is part of the Regional National park of Ardèche Mountains. It is possible to go on a lot of different hikes in the area. If you like nature, you will discover sites which are remarkable for their biodiversity. The water park Eyrium is situated around 10 kilometers away.
This project is supported by the European Solidarity Corps programme and is only open to INEX-SDA participants (Czech Republic).
The participation to the ESC volunteering teams is subjects to several principles and conditions, presented on the ESC webpage: https://europa.eu/youth/solidarity/mission_en
• volunteers do not have to pay any fee (not sending, nor participation fee) to attend the project;
• volunteers need to enrol in the PASS, the European Solidarity Corps Portal ; Concordia France will organize their matching, on the online system, with the volunteering project;
• volunteers will receive pocket money, calculated on basis of 6€/day, once they arrive on the project in France;
• volunteers will receive a financial support for their travel, according to a maximum amount established in accordance with their travel distance and upon the presentation of original tickets;
• volunteers will have to complete a participation report, submitted online through the portal.
Remember to bring gloves as well as working clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. In the mountains, nights may be chilly even in summer. Remember to bring a warm sleeping bag and warm clothes. Hiking shoes will be useful to explore the region. Do not forget sun protection as well (hat, sunglasses and sunscreen) and a swimming suit. The common life activities will be programmed together with your camp leaders and according to your suggestions! If you want to share your culture with the others, do not hesitate to take a piece of your country with you (recipes, traditional stories, songs etc.)!
Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues happen on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country.
