Project: Saint Maixent is a charming historical village traversed by a small river (the Svre Niortaise). By means of this project, Solidarits Jeunesses is collaborating with a local association, the Free Trade-Union Association of the Riverside of the Svre Niortaise, which coordinates the hydraulic activity of 25 mills. The workcamp will be located upstream of a mill and the volunteers will renovate the stone floor (flood barrier) where a leak has complicated the flow of water. Work: Firstly the group will block the flow of the river with sandbags in order to be able to then work on and strengthen the wall. The volunteers will be responsible for the construction of this stone wall. Volunteers from the association will instruct the group of volunteers in certain traditional masonry techniques, lime work, clay work...The volunteers will also be able to discover certain techniques of the hydraulic systems. Leisure activities: Numerous activities will be available including canoeing, boat rides, fishing, visiting the mills... but also excursion for discovering the region: towns, the Poitevin marsh, the ocean. The locals hope to enjoy a cultural exchange with the young volunteers. Accommodation: collective, indoors. Location: Saint Martin of Saint Maixent, Deux-Svres, 26 km from Niort et 53 km from Poitiers Nearest train station: Saint Maixent l'Ecole
