Descripción:
Since 2003, FSL-India has been conducting work camps and placing LTV s in Kundapur region (Karnataka state). FSL-India has been involved in developing projects for many years in this region and has now formed a very strong network of local partners and local volunteers. Invariably this is one of the prime locations for FSL-India to initiate development interventions in partnership with the local NGOs and civil society organisations. FSL-India is planning to construct a Youth Training Centre in Kundapur. The Youth Training Centre will have an eco-friendly concept using locally available materials and will include model farming, rain water harvesting, bio gas, compost pits and optimum utilisation of energy and water resources. We will also be planting native species of plants over 6 acres of farm land. This project is open to a maximum of 5 LTVs at a time. Some of the activities include:a)- Supervising the construction work and ensuring quality of constructionb)- Planning and implementing the construction workc)- Researching and recommending eco-friendly concepts that can be implemented like rain water harvesting, bio gas, model farming etc.d)- Planting trees, landscaping and laying pathwaysApplications for this type of project are open to all. However, preference will be given to volunteers who have a background in Architecture, Landscaping, Eco-friendly initiatives etc. The Info-sheet will have more information regarding the individual projects with schedules, and activities.
You could be staying with local families near to the project. You could be sharing rooms with 2-3 volunteers or staying on your own. Sometimes, projects provide accommodation for the volunteers. The project will provide a room that is shared by other volunteers or with the staff of the project.
Our projects are spread out across different regions in South India. Your project location could be in any one of the following locations - Bangalore, Mysore, Chennai, Kundapur, Udupi, Mangalore, North Karnataka or Pondicherry. You will be notified of the location of your project a month prior to your arrival. During the Orientation week, one can find out the leisure activities around your area. There are lots of things to do in south of India.
Visa Requirements: According to the new Visa Regulations, volunteers coming to India to do voluntary service with/through a registered Indian organization need to apply for an Employment Visa ( to work with NGO / Non-Profit organization). No other visa is acceptable. In order to apply for an Employment visa, you ll need proof of employment with an organization in India, such as a contract that states the terms and conditions. FSL India will provide necessary documents for your visa application on request. For more information, please visit the following websites: http://goindia.about.com/od/visas/tp/Guide-To-Indian-Visa-Types.htm http://www.immihelp.com/nri/indiavisa/categories.html What is needed to be an LTV We welcome anybody who is interested to participate in our voluntary programs regardless of age, sex, religious belief, ethnicity or sexual orientation. Most of our programmes do not require any specific skills. But as the work is humanitarian in nature, we encourage volunteers to be: O Open Minded: It is essential to be open to new ideas, situations, morals, values and ways of doing things. Things may be different from what you are used to or your existing expectations. If you remain open minded then you will be flooded with new opportunities. Broadening the mind is at the heart of inter-cultural exchange. O Flexible: Remaining flexible to ideas, people, situations and encounters is important. While working at social projects, you will be dealing with people i and people are unpredictable. Taking a flexible approach is often the best way to deal with such situations. O Creative: Taking a creative approach to your volunteer placement and work maintains motivation and, prevents routine and boredom for yourself and the project. When you start to think creatively it is amazing what can be achieved.
