Descripción:
Within the framework of WHO s definition of health as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity - Reproductive Health addresses the reproductive processes, functions and systems at all stages of life. Reproductive health therefore implies that people are able to have a responsible, satisfying and safe sex life and that they have the capability to reproduce and the freedom to decide, if when, and how often to do so. This focuses on the right of men and women to be informed of and to have access to safe, effective, affordable, and acceptable methods of fertility regulation of their choice, and the right to access appropriate health care services that will enable women to go safely through pregnancy and childbirth and provide couples with the best chance of having a healthy infant. As a volunteer you will have to work with rural and community based organisations that are involved in 1) Prevention and management of unwanted pregnancy, 2) Maternal care that includes antenatal, delivery and postpartum services, 3) Child survival services for new-borns and infants, 4) Management of Reproductive Tract Infection (TRIs) and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), and 5) promotion of adolescent health. Responsible and healthy sexual behaviour; Interventions to Promote Safe Motherhood; Prevention of Unwanted Pregnancies: Increase Access to Contraceptives; Management of RTIs/STDs; Referral facilities by Government /Private Sector for Pregnant Woman at Risk; Reproductive Health Services for Adolescent Health; Essential New Born Care; Prevention and Management of Vaccine Preventable Disease will be the components of the project you will work on as a volunteer. Prior exposure and experience in this filed will be an added advantage.
You could be staying with local families near to the project. You could be sharing rooms with 2-3 volunteers or staying on your own. Sometimes, projects provide accommodation for the volunteers. The project will provide a room that is shared by other volunteers or with the staff of the project.
Our projects are spread out across different regions in South India. Your project location could be in any one of the following locations - Bangalore, Mysore, Chennai, Kundapur, Udupi, Mangalore, North Karnataka. You will be notified of the location of your project a month prior to your arrival. During the Orientation week, one can find out the leisure activities around your area. There are lots of things to do in south of India.
What is needed to be an LTV We welcome anybody who is interested to participate in our voluntary programs regardless of age, sex, religious belief, ethnicity or sexual orientation. Most of our programmes do not require any specific skills. But as the work is humanitarian in nature, we encourage volunteers to be: O Open Minded: It is essential to be open to new ideas, situations, morals, values and ways of doing things. Things may be different from what you are used to or your existing expectations. If you remain open minded then you will be flooded with new opportunities. Broadening the mind is at the heart of inter-cultural exchange. O Flexible: Remaining flexible to ideas, people, situations and encounters is important. While working at social projects, you will be dealing with people i and people are unpredictable. Taking a flexible approach is often the best way to deal with such situations. O Creative: Taking a creative approach to your volunteer placement and work maintains motivation and, prevents routine and boredom for yourself and the project. When you start to think creatively it is amazing what can be achieved.
