1. Summary: Let's work for the forest and children! You also fully enjoy richness of nature and the night
studded thick with stars.
2. Background: Organized together with a local group formed for this project since 1999. This village has
received the first prize at the national contests for visibility of beautiful stars in the sky and
terraced paddy fields.
In spite of the town’s natural heritage, depopulation (especially of youth) is a serious problem
here similarly with many other parts of the country side in Japan. We aim to activate the area by
international voluntary power through helping forest conservation and organizing children’s
summer camp.
3. Work: We will work in the forests for maintenance by such as cutting underbrush. We will also support
children’s summer camp will be held in this village. We will play, cook, and live in a nature with
kids in order for them to learn independence, group cooperation, and have interest in different
cultures. We will also do some needed works depends on the weather.
4. Accommodation: A community center. Meals will be cooked by volunteers by turns. Sleeing bag is necessary.
5. Study theme: Volunteers will get knowledge of conservation work in a forest.
6. Other activities: Star watching, cultral exchange party with locals, hot spring, and so on.
7. Location: Small village surrounded by mountains, about 50 km southeast of Fukuoka, famous for
production of tea leaves and beauty of starry sky.
8. Terminal: The closest International airport is in Fukuoka. From Fukuoka to the meeting point, it takes
about 2 hours by express train. You need to arrive at Fukuoka airport by 10:00AM on Aug. 15th
and can leave there after 17:00 on Aug. 27).
9. Requirement: Interest in nature protection & activity with children. Adaptability to enjoy a simple lifestyle is
needed!
