WORK
Volunteers will have opportunity to help in different works to develop idea of The Garden Of Destiny. It will be manual work in different parts of this garden – the amphitheatre, rock formation, The Stream of Tears, the hill – wild flower meadow, the apple tree lone etc.
ACCOMMODATION & FOOD
Living conditions are very basic. The volunteers are accommodated in the tents. Toilets and washing facilities are provided. Cooking is done by volunteers themselves on camp fire.
LOCATION
Work camp will be organized at Koknese.
With the support of the entire Latvian nation the Garden of Destiny is becoming a reality on an island in Koknese on the Daugava. It is a place where the past, the present and the future of the people as well as the nation merge...merge to give solace to the past, strength to the present and inspiration to follow your dream in the future. Just as generations left the Statue of Freedom to us, we will leave the Garden of Destiny as our legacy. Shunmyo Masuno – a landscape artist from Japan – has visualized the Garden of Destiny. His work was selected as the best of 207 projects by an international jury.
By picturesque riversides of the Daugava and the Pērse, only 100 km form Riga, is Koknese. In ancient times it was an important traders and craftsmen’s center, the Hansa city. Koknese still attracts with the magnificent nature, the breath of history which is carefully stored in the old park and the mighty castle walls, which now is surrounded by the water of Pļaviņas reservoir that had transformed all the landscape beyond recognition. TERMINAL
Arrival terminals are Riga international airport or Riga international bus station. By request YOUTH FOR SMILE can organize meeting on arrival place. If it is necessary YOUTH FOR SMILE can help in finding for accommodation before and after project
LEISURE TIME
During work camp we will have possibilities as well to visit different cultural and historical places. From 30.06.-07.07. in Riga will be possibility to visit Nationalwide Latvian Song and Dance Celebration. In thous celebration once in five years participate more than 38000 participatnts – singers, dancers and other performes. Volunteers will have possibilities to organise intercultural events etc.
