Leaving Rabat crossing the majestic moulay Hassan bridge towoards Salé whitch is an old city composed of two
parts, the old Medina where life withing its medieval limits still remain susprisingly traditional and where many
important historical monuments such as the Medersa and old mosques could be found (built in 1341) many
monumental gates, the “Grande mosque” , the Medina and the mellah (jewist qarter ) and many other well worth
visiting places , stand up fightingagainst time.
The second part (called , la ville nouvelle) located outside the wall of the old Medina, is well known by its
“jardin exotique” a garden which is full of precarious bamboo bridges , dot-directed routes , where one can
wander throuth a sequence of brilliant regional creations, “la ville nouvelle” is also famous by its “plages des
nations” a relaxed and friendly place with an excellent beach( to swim is dangerous).
In few words, Salé is a city of wonderful beaches (two) well worth seing monuments , a vast forest(Maamora)
and of other things to be seen and not talked about; let alone what can be seen in its neighbour Rabat
(the capital of Morocco separated from Salé only by river.
"Chantiers jeunesse Maroc"is organizing a workcamp with the collaboration with delegate of ministry of
education Salé.
Number of participants: 20
Nature of the project: painting classrooms and frescoes on the wall and gardening in a school -Salé
The duration of work will be 5 hours /a day.
Meals: Meals will be prepared by volunteers.
Leisure activities
Volunteers will have to setup their own programme of leisure activities.
There are some hints to help you setup this programme.
Volunteers visit the Médina of Salé: Bab Mrissa, Bouananiya school; the handicraft complexe of
Oulja Salé; the exotic garden of Salé , as well as the beaches of the region and the city of Rabat
and its monuments: Tour Hassane , Kasbat des Oudais, Médina , Chellah….
You will also have to bring with you working clothes, a sleeping bag, and anything which could contribute to the good progress of the workcamp (game sets, musical instruments, cooking recipe, etc….)
Lodging: volunteers will be lodged in a school, will send you the school address of lodging later.
