Workcamp in Chefchaouen

The objective of the project is to help preparing a local summer camp for the children of the community, the volunteers will help installing the tents for them, cleaning the area, painting frescoes and other tasks that may come to their minds once there, particulary related to the environment.

We have chosen this project because we got a demand of the local community, saying that they were in need of help to prepare the workamps for children, they are lacking staff, so they though about a volunteering project with which, furthermore, they could promote their local culture and get some help with this task as well.

- Preparing the space for the summer camp for the local children.

- Cleaning the area, so as to preserve its maintainance for when the children arrive

- Painting frescoes in the allowed areas, to give it a fun and friendly appearence

- Building up green spaces, cutting the bushes and clearing up the leaves

Apart from the workcamp, those young people can participate also in various activities. The volunteers have the possibility to get in contact with the local people, take part in the Moroccan habitudes and way of life. 
The general organization and responsibility of the workcamp lies in a camp leader who may as well prepare an animation program for the participants, including the proposition of spare-time activities in the surrounding area, although the volunteers can also take initiative on this and propose other activities.

Jebha is a small Moroccan port city, located on the border of the Eastern and Western Rif. It is the urban center of the rural town of M'Tioua, province of Chefchaouen, region of Tanger-Tétouan. It was under the spanish protectorate, reason why a large number of its population speaks spanish, its old name is “El Puerto”. Jebha is located 130 KM far from Chefchaouen town center and 120 from Tetouan.

This workcamp is also for national volunteers so the ones coming from abroad will appreciate their everyday  life habits and culture through practical and social involvement. They will get in touch with national volunteers so that they can get involved in the community, not only inside the center but also outside, when they finish their work.

The volunteers are not required to have any previous experience. We are looking for enthusiastic, positive and respectful people, who are willing to work close with people from other nationalities to learn new skills and develop new relationships in ways that they choose and at a pace they feel comfortable with.

- Painting frescoes

- Cleaning up the area, taking off the trash and the leaves

- Building up green spaces, taking care of the environment

- Cooking in teams with other volunteers, both national and international.

- Some extra activities will be organized by the association like animation with children.

The volunteers will work five days per week, four hours per day in the morning or the afternoon and get two free days, it can be the weekend or other days, this will depend on the work plan.

The volunteers will stay in a youth center. We will cook 3 meals per day and we will make shifts to prepare them. Some days some volunteers will cook and others clean and the other way around. We will all help each other with the different tasks.

We need to highlight something that might be a bit difficult for the volunteers, given the past experiences with them. In Morocco, is rare to find the toilets that they are used to have in Europe. In this country, the toilet is normally a typical turkish bath.Although they will be provided with blankets, its highly recommended for the volunteers to bring blankets with them.

The best way to arrive to Chefchaouen is by bus, taking it from Tangier bus station, as its the closest city with airport to the town. Someone will pick you up to take you to Jebha.

The meeting point will be arranged by email before your arrival to Rabat, once you have passed them your flight details. If you are arriving to any other airport it will be easy to take a bus from the train station of the city you are arrinving too, as Chaouen is a popular destination. We will give you details with timetables once you have passed us your flight details. The info sheet will be send 3 weeks before the project starts
