Atekokoli “Intercultural theater: Artistic Caravan”

PROJECT DETAILS: The organization ‘Teatro de los Volcanes A.C.’ with a history of 17 years has done several projects around the community theater in Mexico, like meetings, festivals and assemblies. Atekokoli aims to make cultural camps for the performing arts with international volunteers and indigenous groups in Chiapas Mayan language speakers Tzotzil and Tzeltal.
WORK: Volunteers will be involved in the preparation and implementation of a play, in order to present it in an artistic caravan for neighborhoods on the outskirts of the city of San Cristobal de las Casas. In addition there will be hold workshops with children and adolescents. The first week is devoted to the preparation of the work aimed at the public workshops on the environment, arts and crafts, music, as well as theater. It is expected that the volunteers involve themselves with their own ideas on workshops and a lot of motivation to prepare the work to be presented at the caravan.
ACCOMODATION: A house in San Cristóbal de las Casas, only with basic facilities.
FOOD: You are going to cook yourselves. The place has everything you need to cook and store food.
LANGUAGE: Basis Spanish would be welcome in order to be able to be in contact with the community, however it is not necessary.
LOCATION: San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas.
FREE TIME: The volunteers can enjoy the variety of cultural activities that are possible in San Cristóbal de las Casas (theater, concerts, museums, hiking tours, etc.). Furthermore, there are places to visit like Cañón del sumidero, Arcotete, San Juan Chamula, Zinacantán, etc.
REQUIREMENTS: Good disposal to teamwork and interest in the subject.

The meeting point will be at the VIMEX office before the camp starts because all the volunteers will go together to the project.
