Volunteers will be in charge of organizing movie and documentary projectionsin different forums for their discussion. The topics to be discussed are open and inclusive. We invite the participants to make their own proposals; previously approved by Natate. Each show will be documented and justified by the cinematographic material used, location, topic, and focused discussion. A mediator will be necessary for conducting and making the process more dynamic. The material to be projected should have appropriate content for the assisting audience, with high audio and video quality with subtitles (when needed) which facilitate the comprehension of locals and international assistants. Screening tests should be conducted at the locations to ensure a good quality projection. The locations will be proposed by both Natate and the participating volunteers, making them part of the experience of organizing a cultural event, including promotion and dissemination in the local media. Also, the volunteers can organize additional activities which complete the cinematographic experience, such as documentary filming, audiovisual memories, fotographic expositions, theatrical representations, and other dynamics.
Accommodation: Volunteers will share rooms and have access to basic services such as hot water and an equipped kitchen in San Cristobal de Las Casas. They will be responsible for organizing the cleaning and preparation of food in the assigned place. The workcamps include three meals a day with standard quantities (about 300 grams per portion), additional quantities should be covered by the volunteer.Any special dietary requirements should be informed before the workcamp starts.
The project is carried out in the Highlands of Chiapas, in south-eastern Mexico, in the charming small town of San Cristobal de Las Casas, which has maintained its colonial architecture and Mexican flavour, while welcoming a mixture of indigenous, national and international cultures. Similarly, it is a strategic starting point for the surrounding regions, which show a great biodiversity and natural areas that can be reached within a few hours. Some touristic attractions include parks, lakes, Mayan archaeological sites, mangroves, waterfalls and beaches. It is not necessary for the volunteers to have technical knowledge in using audiovisual equipment, cinematographic production or in event organization; however, it is mandatory to have a great interest to develop knowledge in these topics. Volunteers who wish to contact Natate for an early proposal on topics, material, and complementary activities will be able to do it in order to make a much richer experience.
