PROJECT DETAILS: The UABC is a public university which has more than 57,000 students statewide, with 142 degree programs in 40 academic units distributed in cities such as Mexicali, Tijuana, Ensenada. In the Faculty of Languages offers studies of French, German, Japanese, Portuguese and Italian. Two volunteers are needed for each language, 10 for each Campus (3), a total of 30 volunteers.
WORK: Would you like Mexican college students who are learning different languages like English, French, Japanese, Italian and German in addition to the university career studying in UABC University. ?
These students do not have the opportunity to be in contact with young people of these nationalities and learning these languages is more complex. That would be very helpful if you to come to talk with them and practice the language they are studying in the language center of the University.
In what way would this be possible? Supporting the lecturer to prepare lessons for students, giving some classes, organizing conversation clubs , singing songs , listening songs and writing lyrics, supporting them in their tasks.
It would be interesting for the students if you show them your country through a power point presentation (10-15 slides are enough) , bring your national costume for Mexican students who know it You can bring recipe of traditional food from your country, you can prepare this dish in college and so the Mexican students know how to cook it and then they can taste it.
We are planning activities for the day of the English Language, one for the French Language, other day for German Language etc. In each days there will be a gastronomic show, students can watch movies in French, English and German. Students can also hear music in those languages.
The interesting thing about this experience is that students speak only in the language they are studying and in this part you are vital. Mexican students will not speak Spanish.
What will the Mexican students do with the volunteers who wish to come to Baja California, Mexico? There will be a cultural exchange, so Mexican students teach Spanish to foreign volunteers, show you different places in their city, prepare them a gastronomic exhibitions, the students can teach Mexican music to the foreigners and also they can do them a power point presentation about Mexico, Baja California and the city where they live.
Volunteers will be working in two shifts ,in the morning from 9 am to 13 pm. and in the afternoon from 15:00 to 19:00 hrs.
LOCATION: The University has 3 campus, one is located in Mexicali , other in Tijuana and Ensenada the last one is situated in Baja California, in the north on the border near California, United States.
