PROJECT DETAILS: Zacualpan of Amilpas is located east of the state of Morelos, limited north of the town of Tetela del Volcan south with Temaoc east with the state of Pueba and on the west side with Ocuituco and Yecapixtla, the etymology of its name comes from tzacual-li meaning "stuffed thing" Some of the tourist attractions are the Convent of the Immaculate Conception, and the estates of Chicomocelo Cuentepec and the Temple of Our Lady of the Assumption.
In 1535 construction began on Zacualpan convent near Canyon Amatzinac under the patronage of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. In its first phase the temple was a very simple construction, then church and convent were markedly improved, gaining recognition in 1550 of the Viceroy. Zacualpan has a long tradition of the Trueque an ancient method of exchanging goods and in which money is not involved and which exists still today and holds a annual celebration for the Rosario Virgin with a feast that is part of the intangible heritage of the village.
WORK: The activities will be:
1 -. Visits in middle schools to give talks of cultural experiences as well as experiences in other countries
2 - Introduce to students the work being done by international volunteers in the communities (This activity will be offered not only in the town of Zacualpan otherwise in the Municipality of Temoac given the good relationship we have)
3 - The volunteers will also participate in the preparations of the annual festivities of the Feast for the Rosario Virgin which is the main celebrations of the village.
4 - Participate in the work and the organization of the traditions (mojigangas) in the community to participate in the parade festivities start .
5 - Involve Volunteers in the making traditional bow seeds parties.
LOCATION: Zacualpan is located 20 minutes from the city of Cuautla and 2 hours from Mexico City
NEAREST STATION: Cuautla, Morelos
ACCOMMODATION: In a house in the village with all the facilities
FOOD: Will be prepared by volunteers..
LANGUAGE: Speaking Spanish (30%) will be welcome in order to get in touch with the Mexican people. But if you do not speak it, do not worry, it is not the end of the world.
REQUIREMENTS: Good team work attitude, dedication, be responsible and enthusiastic to work. Bring clothes according with the activities. Please bring your own insurance and sleeping bag.
FREE TIME: Participating in a day tour that offers guidance for tourism attractions of the town (former convent, former haciendas, Colonial Homes, Organic Coffee Production, Production Elaboration of Cured, this is a Mexican traditional antique beverage.)
Offer retreats with the youth of the community in a sporting event with the intention of carrying out a mutual interaction. (this activity in coordination with the management of the Municipality Sports)
And many parties with the community, too.
The meeting point will be at the VIMEX office before the camp starts because all the volunteers will go together to the project.
