PROJECT: We are looking for highly motivated volunteers that would like to take part in an important mission... To inspire humanistic development activities that can stand against apathy, low self-esteem and lack of youth engagement into the community. As a volunteer you will be able to develop recreational activities and sport activities as well. La Piedad, Michoacán is looking for international volunteers that want to take part in a Motivational Workcamp that stands against the lack of options for youth inclusion, lack of communication and dissemination of youth programs and youth shyness because they live in a rural community. While including activities along with international volunteers, we seek to give rise to a concern in youngsters to see the world, learn about other cultures, countries and ways of thinking. It is a program of the Local Youth Ministry, which has programs about solidarity development for youngsters who are living in one of the communities of La Piedad. International volunteers will participate as facilitators, being in contact and having fun with community youngsters through recreational, cultural and sport activities.
WORK: The volunteers will plant trees in specific areas of the community, help to clean the streets, repair damaged monuments and learn about the traditions of the community. The volunteers will organize talks about teamwork, leadership and how to create a life plan. Take part in movie nights along with youngsters from the local community, prepare games and inspire sport activities.
PLACE: La Piedad, known as the door north of Michoacan is located surrounding the shores of the Great or Lerma River , bordered to the north by the municipalities of Degollado and Ayotlan Jalisco ; small producing populations of quarry crafts and textiles. To the north is the city of Santa Ana Pacueco delegation belonging to the city of Penjamo, Guanajuato. To the east it borders the municipality of Numarán known for its tasty bread. To the south it borders the municipalities of Zináparo , Churintzio and Ecuandureo , and west with the municipality of Yurécuaro . La Piedad has many interesting and wonderful attractions among the sites is the main square with a magnificent stone kiosk, its portals, and the Sanctuary of the Lord of La Piedad. The dome of the latter is the largest in America and is among the three largest in the world. Besides the bridge Dug, a masterpiece of engineering of his time, also built in stone in the nineteenth century. At 17 km distance is the "El Salto" waterfall of about 21 meters high and 130 meters wide and is formed in the course of the Lerma River. A similar distance is a reserve known as "Cerro Grande" which has a magnificent forest from the foothills to the top. There are some urban parks like the "Morelos" park, Lazaro Cardenas park, known among piedadenses as "La Placa" or the local zoo. It has all the tourist services. The city is famous for its colorful shawls, woven loom pedals and spliced by hand, but also internationally renowned composer José Alfredo Jiménez, made it more with the song "The Black Dog". Also at about 6 km is the archaeological area of Zaragoza, where the culture flourished Guamares Chichimeca. There you can enjoy their pyramids and ball game. The piedadense nightlife is active and varied, especially on weekends. There are several places where you can dance rhythms and electronic music or band and bars.
LEISURE ACTIVITIES: During the weekend, the volunteers are able to visit some interesting places such as the Archaeological Sites Zaragoza, Plazuelas and more! Volunteers are welcomed to know the Hacienda Tequilera Corralejo (Tequila Ranch at Corralejo). Volunteers can also visit the beautiful Morelia City or go to El Salto Waterfalls.
HOSTING: Volunteers will be hosted in a particular house with all services at disposal: Hot Water, Electricity, Restrooms, Showers, Kitchen,
Fridge, Laundry room, Safety Box and Wi-Fi connection.
SPECIAL REQUIRMENTS: Comfortable clothes, working shoes, cap, a raincoat, mosquito's repellent and sunscreen.
