PROJECT: Ciudad Serdan, at Puebla State, has different and really interesting regional festivals, including the “Three Falls of our Father Jesus”, which begins on August the 16th. At the beginning, there are serenades in the atrium of the Parish of San Andrés, then on the last Sunday of August, takes place an evening procession where the image of the Father is shown through the different streets of the city. This project aims to Support the preservation of local traditions through participation in events organized due to the festivities of the community, promote a cultural exchange by presenting to the participants of the events Introduce the traditions, magic and culture of the region, promote an international intercultural experience and raise awareness and respect for both the environment and the community. Know and understand the real Mexico through living with a host families in the community, sharing their culture and traditions encouraging cultural exchanges between the community of Chalchicomula de Sesma and international volunteers by promoting coexistence, change the way we see other cultures and even change attitudes and customs improving others life’s. Promote the intercultural and global learning receiving volunteers from different cultures and living with students from the Technological Institute at Ciudad Serdan develop in both groups intercultural skills with universal values, and the development of teamwork and self-initiative through unforgettable and enriching experiences forming citizens of the World.
WORK: Volunteers will participate in workshops submitting ideas and participating in organization of cultural events for the local festivities. Participate in cultural and sports activities of the Technologinal Institute at Ciudad Serdan and being a Staff Member in social events developing cultural activities within the community.
PLACE: Ciudad Serdan, before and still popularly known as San Andrés Chalchicomula , is a city of the Mexican state of Puebla, the most important of the eastern zone of that State . He is head of the municipality of Chalchicomula de Sesma. The earliest settlers were the chichimeco - tlaxcaltecas , barely formed a humble congregation of Indians in the area. Its historical background is important and significant regional economy that allowed the local municipality was in his time a distinguished center of communication , commerce, finance , culture and society. There are Several “Haciendas Coloniales” (ranches built in the conquest time) from the colonial period such as San Antonio , Ocotepec , San Cayetano to 3 km . Cd . Serdan and Sesma to 18 km . Cd . Serdan. In the property of Xalapasco only you can visit the Church and Cascantla hacienda that was built in the sixteenth century ( 1560 ). Other helmets are hacienda Santa Ana, Santa Inés , San Diego , La Concepción and San Jeronimo.
LEISURE: Volunteers will have the chance to visit during the weekend the Citaltépec Vulcano and also one of the most famous places in Ciudad Serdán: The Large Millimeter Telescope. The Three Waterfalls of Father Jesus's Paris or if you are looking for something really old, you can not miss the Old Castles of Spanish Conquerors.
HOSTING: Volunteers will be hosted in a particular houses with all services at disposal: Hot Water, Electricity, Restrooms, Showers, Kitchen, Fridge, Laundry room, Safety Box and Wi-Fi connection.
SPECIAL REQUIRMENTS: Light Clothing and a Jacket. Sneakers and Boots, Raincoat and Sunscreen, Working gloves would be appreciated.
