PROJECT

This project is a collaboration between the different branches of the youth institute in Mexico, is a project that seeks to provide the volunteer with a unique experience in Mexico where they can explore different parts of the country and also help with various volunteer work that will benefit the rural community in Mexico. This project will be carried out in three different cities starting in Queretaro, followed by San Miguel de Allende and ending in León.

QUERETARO: The main objective in Queretaro is to focus on social and environmental activities, in which different activities will be carried out for the reconstruction of the social community. This project is developed by the Municipal Institute of Youth Querétaro together with other youth institutions in the country, with the objective of promoting social participation in youngsters of Queretaro, through joint participation with volunteers from different parts of the world.

SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE: The main objective of the project in San Miguel de Allende is for the rehabilitation of a public high school that is located in a community of the municipality of San Miguel de Allende. This project is organized by the municipal institute of Attention to the Youth of San Miguel de Allende with the objective of promoting the social participation of the youth of San Miguel de Allende, as well as the care of their areas of daily coexistence, through motivation and participation with people of different cultures that can share with them about their culture and experiences.

LEON: The main objective in the project for the city of Leon is to generate a multicultural experience within Guanajuato (Guanajuato is the state where the city of Leon is located) where young people from other countries and local people participate in various ecological, cultural and social activities, positively impacting society. Mainly benefiting schools and houses located in vulnerable areas, as well as generating a meeting between young people from Guanajuato and the volunteers so they can exchange ideas and awareness for the resolution of local social problems.

This project is organized by the Leon Youth Institute.

WORK

QUERETARO: The activities that will take place in Queretaro will be

-Rehabilitation of a public elementary school: cleaning and painting work will be carried out in order to provide decent spaces for students to study and continue preparing.

-Asylum visit: the visit to the asylum will be carried out within the municipality, integration activities and coexistence with senior citizens will be carried out, in order to encourage fellowship and human sense.

-Cleaning of the river: a cleaning will be done in “El rio de Querétaro” in order to recover public spaces, guarantee the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all, for the benefit of the municipality of Querétaro.

SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE: The activities that will take place in San Miguel de Allende will be the cleaning and painting work in the public high school in order to provide decent spaces for young people to continue preparing academically while promoting teamwork, interculturality, and respect for public areas. It is also expected that through the talk and coexistence an open mind will be achieved in the youth of San Miguel de Allende to motivate them to know more cultures and travel.

LEON: The activities that will take place in Leon will be mainly related to infrastructures, such as paint walls, repair benches, work in green areas, etc. In addition, the participation of urban muralists will be sought to help carry out activities aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The volunteers will work with young students, children and adults, inhabitants of the communities to benefit, mostly with paint, brushes, shovels, cleaning materials, etc. ; It will also seek to plant trees in areas that favor their development, bringing beauty to the spaces and a “green lung” in them.

SKILLS AND CERTIFICATIONS

By participating in this project, you will acquire the global skills of Adaptability, Global Awareness, Strategic Thinking and Collaborative Planning, after the participation in the project volunteers will receive an official letter certifying these skills.

ACCOMMODATION

QUERETARO: Volunteers will be hosted in a private house in Queretaro with all facilities at their disposal namely, private bathroom, hot water, kitchen, security.

SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE: Volunteers will be hosted in a private house in San Miguel de Allende with all facilities at their disposal namely, private bathroom, hot water, kitchen, security. The bedrooms will be share and there will be no internet.

LEON: Volunteer will be hosted in share rooms with basic accommodation, rest and contact services. The internet service will depend on the accommodation provided and the coverage area.

Food will be provided in all the locations.

LOCATION

Queretaro: it is a heritage city, considered a colonial treasure, is famous for his important role in the history of Mexico: in 1810 he hosted the Querétaro conspiracy where the movement that ultimately led to the Independence of Mexico was forged. As well Querétaro contains great biodiversity and different ecosystems that live in the same place, and it is a city with great cultural and economic importance.

San Miguel de Allende: is a city in the Mexican state of Guanajuato. It is declared as a magic town, and it has quality service, friendliness, gastronomy, cleanliness, shopping and mobility experience in addition to its great cultural contribution, architectural beauty, and places of fun.

Leon: the city of León is one of the municipalities in which the Mexican state of Guanajuato is divided, it is by population the largest in the state, its official name is the city of “León de los Aldama”, and it is also the largest city of Guanajuato and the fourth most populous municipality in Mexico.

WHERE TO ARRIVE

The first city where the volunteers will arrive will be Queretaro, where this are de closes stations and airports:

CLOSEST STATION: “Terminal de autobuses Querétaro”

CLOSEST INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT: Queretaro International Airport.

OTHER POSSIBLE AIRPORTS: Mexico City International Airport.

At the end of the respective activities in Queretaro and stay, a transport will be coordinated for the group of volunteers that will take them to San Miguel de Allende (this transport has no additional cost).

And finally at the end of the stay of the volunteers in San Miguel de Allende, the transfer to the city of Leon will be coordinated (this transfer will also have no additional cost).

CAMP LANGUAGE: English (Spanish is appreciated but not mandatory!)

LEISURE TIME

QUERETARO: There are numerous activities, alternative sports, expeditions to the canyons and rivers of the mountains, to the cycling circuits through the southern meadows.  It has several villages around where there are places full of Mexican culture and tradition to appreciate and learn about the people or of the natural beauties that it can offer.

SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE: A tour will be given for volunteers so they can know about the history of the city and the representative architecture.

Also, San Miguel de Allende is one of the most popular towns in Mexico both among Mexicans and the foreigners. The town is a Unesco world Heritage site since 2008. It has a big expat community for that reason its colonial center is full of restaurants and bars. Despite being a small town, San Miguel has lots to offer and discover.

LEON: Cultural and recreational activities are included so that the volunteers get to know the local culture and the most emblematic tourist sites of the municipality.

Also, Leon is a city with great dynamism and rich in culture, in which activities for foreigners are varied and pleasant. You can visit different places that have great Mexican culture and history.

PARTICIPATION FEE

There is no participation fee for this project.

SPECIAL NOTES: For volunteers who are interested in learning Spanish, a Spanish course will be organized in the city of Morelia, Michoacán before the start of each project. Total Cost: 120 Euros. It includes accommodation for 7 days at a Youth Hostel in Morelia city, Spanish classes with an experienced teacher for 15 hours, required materials to study and activities to practice Spanish. Only meals are not included. Please contact us at least two weeks before the start of the course for registration.
