PROJECT DETAILS: Xochicalco is an archaeological site located in the municipalities of Temixco and Miacatlán in the Morelos region, à 38 km southwest of the city of Cuernavaca. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999. The apogee of Xochicalco takes place in the period called Epi (650 - 900). During this time they built the most monumental architecture visible today, its development and emergence must be understood from its relationship with Teotihuacan, the dominant settlement in Mesoamerica during the Classic period. According to some researchers, Xochicalco came after the abandonment of that urban center to fill the power vacuum caused by economic and political that fact. The museum and archaeological zone of Xochicalco received groups of international volunteers in 2011 and 2012 during which the exchange with people in communities Tetlama, Cuentepec Xochicalco was very rewarding and keeping the interest of the museum's education team to bring more international and national volunteers to the summer program and the archaeological site of Xochicalco museum. This program aims to: Promote the Protection, Preservation and Dissemination of Cultural Heritage through various recreational activities developed and directed towards children accompanied by adults can interact mainly belonging to the communities surrounding the Xochicalco museum as they are, Cuentepec, Tetlama, Xochicalco and Alpuyeca.
WORK: Volunteers will participate in the following tasks:
• Support the organization (preparation, implementation and evaluation) archeology workshops, clay and origami (or paint wood) with the educational team of the archaeological site for the children of nearby communities with the educational team of the archaeological zone.
• Maintenance work on the archaeological zone.
Presentations about World Heritage and their countries in local schools, use of the WH Map to show people and students where their site is placed and the volunteer countries. .
Realisation of educational workshops with children Tetlama communities, Cuentepec and Xochicalco.
Cleaning green spaces with the inhabitants of the communities.
Renovation of various areas of the WH site such as the paths, some walls in the Acropolis of the site as well as the cutting grass and weeding out plants from the pyramids
LOCATION: Xochicalco is located half an hour from the city of Cuernavaca.
NEAREST STATION: Cuernavaca.
ACCOMMODATION: In a house in the village
FOOD: Meals will be prepared by volunteers. It has everything you need to cook and care for the food.
LANGUAGE: Speaking Spanish will be welcome in order to get in touch with the Mexican people.
REQUIREMENTS: Good team work attitude, dedication, responsibility and enthusiasm to work. Bring clothes according with the activities. Please bring your own insurance and sleeping bag.
FREE TIME: The volunteer will have the opportunity to visit nearby places and villages where there is a lot of traditions and customs. Walks with local young people, excursions will also be part of the free time program.

The meeting point will be at the VIMEX office before the camp starts because all the volunteers will go together to the project
