PROJECT DETAILS: The Patrimonito project is part of the World Heritage Program implemented by UNESCO’s World Heritage Center in cooperation with the Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service. Patrimonito integrates international workcamps as a means to raise awareness of the local population about the importance of protecting their local heritage, to demonstrate the value of non-formal education and to create spaces for cooperation between the World heritage managers and the local population. The 2013 Patrimonito edition proposed by Vimex comprises a workcamp in Yecapixtla.
The objectives of the project Yacapixtla are:
1.        Follow this year with the process of conservation actions undertaken during the previous camps Patrimonito: 2010, 2011, 2012, under the coordination of Talent and Cultural Life Center Civil Association, in the former Convent of San Juan Bautista de Yecapixtla, Morelos, Patr immonium Cultural Heritage. The objectives are:

3.        Also help in advancing the process of raising awareness about intangible heritage that should keep the community as the basis of tangible
WORK: Volunteers clean up some areas emerging from the quarries of the interior or exterior of the former Convent of the sixteenth century, under the direction and supervision of a team of professional restorers and accredited by the competent authorities (National Institute of Anthropology and History, INAH).  
Also work with the Cultural Center Talents and Life AC, organization and implementation of workshops and conferences for local people (especially to children and young people) and authorities in order to show tourists the importance of preserving cultural heritage site in Yecapixtla.
Volunteers share and exchange their cultures with the community and vice versa: values, cuisine, songs, languages, oral traditions, lifestyles, etc..; through formal workshops, casual meetings, interviews and direct meeting with families.
LODGING: The Colonial House Central Square, Yecapixtla, Morelos (one block from the former Convent)
FOOD: The meal is prepared by volunteers and sometimes the community will invite them to eat.
LANGUAGE: Basic Spanish.
LOCATION: In the former Convent of San Juan Bautista in Yecapixtla, Morelos
LEISURE: Places to visit and activities:
1.        The route of the former Convent of the sixteenth or the route of Emiliano Zapata.
2.        The route of the estates of Morelos or state archaeological sites (Pyramids Chalcatzingo, Tepoztlan and Xochicalco).
3.        Walk in Cuernavaca: Borda Garden, Cathedral, Palace Museum Cortés.
4.        Visit for the people to know the main production activities, for example making cecina (jerky) of Yecapixtla, visit the fields and community cooperatives.
REQUIREMENTS: Willingness to work in teams, interest in the subject. attitude of mind, initiative and availability, as well as simplicity and responsibility adaptability, openness and respect for other cultures meet. If possible, students in the humanities but not required. Bring sleeping bag and rain gear and waterproof boots and jacket.
REMARK: You can take the Intensive Spanish Course that we offer to the volunteers in our camps before to go to your camp. See the information and conditions at the section of the Spanish Courses 2013.
The meeting point will be at the VIMEX office before the camp starts because all the volunteers will go together to the project.
