Project: The goal of the project is the construction of a small health center that will benefit to the local community (1,910 people) who currently has to walk more than two hours to receive medication and cure. this situation affects primarily pregnant women, children under five and elderly. After building the centre, the Ministry of Health guaranteed to ensure a full-time presence of a nurse and regular doctor's visit to the community.
Work: The volunteers will work in the construction of the health post, along with the residents of the community, also have the opportunity to integrate into the daily activities of a rural community in northern Nicaragua.
Location: The village of San José de Palmira, in the department of Madriz, Nicaragua. Accommodations: In the local INPRHU - Somoto centre, with showers and toilets. You need to bring bedding. The food will be prepared by volunteers.
Language: The national language of Nicaragua is Spanish, but INPRHU's staff is also English- speaking.
Participation Fee: US$ 200.00 (includes, food, lodging, local transportation related to the project (within the community, and in emergencies).
Terminal: Managua; The capital is located 3 hours from the city of Somoto.
Special Requirements: Desire to work, physical work skills, willingness to learn from local cultures.
