Project: “Meotida” is a national landscape park in the south of Donetsk region at the shore of the Azov sea - the smallest, the shallowest, the most limnetic, the most productive sea, and the most distant one from an Ocean. There are about 100 species of fish in the water of the Sea. Flora and fauna of the park are very rich. The park’s prides are numerous colonial settlements of sea birds and nesting places on the arrow of “Curve Spit”, that is unique in Europe. On a few hectares of shell sand beach, which is washed from almost from 4 sides by the Azov Sea, are nests of thousands of birds. It is among the few places in Eurasia that are populated by the rare Palla's Gull.
The work done and the park itself will be presented afterward in an online booklet, that will be published on the site of the of Alternative-V and other NGOs. It will contain comments and opinions of the volunteers as well as photos, and aims to promote both the park and the benefits of volunteer work.
Work: A group of volunteers will work on nature preservation: cleaning the shore out of solid discharge; territory patrolling (in shifts); sea patrolling. Also participants will help a scientific group with monitoring of birds and will get a chance to discover the beauty and variety of the local flora and fauna. Participants should be ready to cooperate with local workers.
The work will be documented by an online booklet, that will be published.
Accommodation: Volunteers will live in wooden huts (2 persons per hut, no electricity) on the Azov Sea shore in a nature reserve. Toilets and showers are outside in a very countryside style. Volunteers should be ready for simple conditions!
Food: Will be prepared by volunteers.
Location: Donetsk region, 12 km from Novoazovsk, at seaside.
Terminal: Donetsk train station.
Nearest Airport: Donetsk.
Leisure time: Sunbathing and swimming in the Azov Sea, group activities, intercultural learning, barbequing, sport and cultural activities, excursions to remarkable places of the park, including the observation tower with a view on the sea, disco in the village, everything what we will be able to create for ourselves to make our camp exciting. It is possible to organize a trip to Mariupol.
What to bring: musical instruments, national games and recipes, flags, info about your country, sportswear, swimming suit, mosquito repellent, pocket flashlight, hat, sunglasses, sun-protection lotion, raincoat, good mood and motivation (sleeping bags are not necessary).
Language: English. If you have any knowledge of Slavic languages it will be great but it is not required.
Meeting point: Donetsk. Exact date and place will be specified in the info-sheet. Costs for the bus from Donetsk to the spot are expected to be covered by volunteers (about 5 Euros).
